All About Wedding Websites
Wedding websites are a fairly new trend in the wedding industry but provide so much important information for your guests. Although we recommend wedding websites for all of our brides, they can be especially helpful for larger weddings with guests traveling in from out of town. Since we know how overwhelming starting your wedding website can be, we put together a little guide for you.
Why Have A Wedding Website?
Your wedding website is a one-stop-shop for all of the important information for your wedding. It houses the details for your big day, your registry, hotel accommodations, and more! While creating a website may seem like just one more task while you prep for your wedding, they are actually really helpful and considerate for your guests. This is especially true for destination weddings or when guests will be traveling to your wedding from out of town. Furthermore, they actually will make your life easier in the long run. Instead of guests reaching out directly to you when they have questions about the wedding, they are able to reference your website which houses all the answers to their questions + more.
What To Include
I could write a list of a million things that you could include on your website. However, we will stick to the biggest and most important right now. To start, you should list all the important information for the ceremony which is also on the invitation. This would be the location, time, dress code, etc. Make sure to include any parking accommodations for the venue as well. Next, you want to include the link to your registry so your guests can find it easily. Another great thing to include on your website is some information on the city and things for guests to do who are visiting from out of town. The final piece we recommend including on your wedding website is some personal information about you and your fiancé. Guests love to get to read about how you met or your engagement story! Don’t forget to include some of your favorite pictures from your engagement session!
What Not To Include
There is typically only one big section that is widely frowned upon including on your website. Don’t include the schedule and details for events where not all of your guests are invited. This would be bridesmaid’s brunch, showers, special dinners, etc. You wouldn’t want your guest to get confused about which events they are invited to or have unwanted guests show up to a more private event.
Designing Your Website
Creating your wedding website can be a very daunting task. However, there are so many resources now that help to make creating your website so easy and streamlined. Many websites offer free website building with easy to use templates. Zola and TheKnot are both very popular websites that are easy to use. With so many templates and customizations, you are able to create a website that matches the themes of your big day. In order to be consistent with the design of your wedding that you are putting so much work into, we recommend carrying the colors and design elements of your wedding onto your website. Our last major website tip for you is to have a password for your website. There will be so much personal information on your website (including your personal mailing address!) and it is always in your best interest to protect it. Luckily for you, adding a simple password is very easy on most wedding website platforms.
