Choosing Your Florist

Flowers are the element that really brings your wedding together. They are the main “decoration” and will really convey your theme to your guests. We know that choosing the right florist for your wedding can often get a little overwhelming for many of our clients and we wanted to share some of our best tips on how to choose the perfect florist for your big day!

Budget

Like anything in wedding planning, budget is everything. You always want to pick vendors that are in your price range. However, we often advise our brides to leave room in their budgets to splurge a little on the vendors that are most important to them. In the case of many of our brides, that would be florals since they can really bring your entire wedding together. Florals are one the aspects of a wedding that many couples do not realize will be so expensive so make sure to keep this in mind when planing. Furthermore, most florists do have minimums when it comes to purchasing flowers which is a good gage to see if a florist is in your budget. While minimums often freak couples out, you almost all of the time meet the minimum or exceed it so keep this in mind while allocating your money.

Aesthetic

Like any professional, you want your florist to have a distinct style or look to their work. Use their past-works compared to your dream theme and feel of your wedding to see if a florist will be a good fit for you. While you obviously won’t be copying a past wedding they have done, you should be able to get a good feel of their work and their versatility. based on their portfolio. Since florals are so important in the feel of your day, you want to be upfront with your florist on your vision for your weddings. Share your Pinterest boards or design plan from your planner with your florist and work together to bring your dreams to life!

Venue

Your venue also plays a large role in choosing a florist and how you want the flowers at your wedding designed. If you are getting married in a church, it is common to have floral arrangements on the ends of the pews or down the aisle. If you are getting married in more of an open space or outside, consider if you want a wedding arch for the ceremony. Having a good idea about what you will want in terms of florals will prepare you to ask the best questions when searching for a florist.

Recommendation

Recommendations can mean everything in the wedding industry! Talk to your married friends to see who they used and loved. Check reviews on WeddingWire or The Knot. When attending weddings, take note of the who they used as well as elements of their wedding that you liked and didn’t like.

Services

Different florists offer different services. When searching for your florist, make sure you know what you expect them to do and to provide. If you are looking for a statement arrangement, candles, or drapings, make sure your florist can provide them. Like mentioned last week in our “ Choosing Your Venue” post, you shouldn’t have to compromise what you want for your wedding!
